SnapLens Privacy Policy

SnapLens is a browser extension that allows users to capture selected areas of webpages, copy or save screenshots, keep recent captures in a local history, and search screenshots using third-party visual search services such as Google Lens and Bing Visual Search.

SnapLens is designed with privacy in mind. We do not operate servers that collect your screenshots, browsing history, or personal information.

1. Information SnapLens Handles

SnapLens processes certain information locally on your device in order to provide its features.

• Screenshot Content: When you use SnapLens to capture part of a webpage, the extension processes an image of the selected area.
• Uploaded Images: If you choose an image from your device for use with SnapLens, the image is processed as part of the requested SnapLens functionality.
• Screenshot History: Recent captures may be stored locally in your browser so that you can view, copy, save, or search them again later.
• No Personal Account Information: SnapLens does not require an account and does not collect your name, email address, IP address, or other account identifiers.
• No Analytics or Tracking: SnapLens does not use advertising trackers, analytics services, tracking cookies, or behavioral profiling to monitor how you use the extension.

2. How SnapLens Uses Data

Screenshot and image data is used only to provide functionality that you request.

• Capturing Screenshots: SnapLens processes the visible browser tab when you activate the capture feature and select an area of the page.
• Clipboard: SnapLens may write a captured screenshot to your clipboard when you use a copy feature.
• Saving Images: When you choose to save a screenshot, SnapLens allows the image to be downloaded to your device.
• Local History: SnapLens may store recent screenshots locally on your device so that they remain available in the extension's history panel.
• Visual Search: When you explicitly choose to search a screenshot using Google Lens or Bing Visual Search, SnapLens may submit or facilitate the submission of that image to the selected third-party service in order to perform the search.

3. Local Storage

SnapLens stores screenshot history locally in your browser or on your device. This information is not stored on servers operated by SnapLens.

Local data may remain on your device until it is removed through SnapLens, cleared through your browser, or removed when the extension's stored data is deleted.

4. Data Sharing and Transmission

We do not sell your personal information, screenshots, browsing activity, or other user data.

SnapLens does not operate a backend server that receives or stores your screenshot history.

Data may leave your device only when necessary for an action that you initiate. For example, when you choose to perform a visual search, screenshot or image data may be sent directly to the selected third-party search provider.

SnapLens does not receive the resulting search data from these providers and does not use your searches for advertising or profiling.

5. Third-Party Services

SnapLens integrates with third-party visual search services, including:

• Google Lens
• Bing Visual Search

When you choose to use one of these services, information provided to that service is governed by its own privacy policy and terms.

6. Browser Permissions

SnapLens uses browser permissions that are necessary to provide its core functionality. Depending on the version of the extension, these may include permissions used to:

• Capture content from the active browser tab.
• Run the screenshot selection interface.
• Copy screenshots to the clipboard.
• Store recent screenshot history locally.
• Open tabs for visual search services.
• Save screenshots to your device when requested.

SnapLens uses these permissions only to provide features initiated by the user and does not use them to monitor general browsing activity.

7. Data Security

SnapLens minimizes data collection by keeping screenshot history and related extension data locally whenever possible.

When an image is sent to a third-party visual search service at your request, the transmission is made using the service's secure HTTPS connection.

You should avoid capturing sensitive information that you do not want stored in your local screenshot history, clipboard, downloads, or shared with a third-party visual search provider.

8. Children's Privacy

SnapLens is not specifically directed toward children under the age of 13. SnapLens does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when SnapLens features or data practices change. When the policy is updated, the effective date at the top of this page will also be updated.

Material changes to how SnapLens handles user data will be disclosed as required by applicable Chrome Web Store policies.
